A Night Off

I've been working like crazy lately, as I type this, I'm at work lol. I rarely ever have off days. When I found out about Empire of the Sun (one of the greatest bands of all time IMO) coming to Atlanta to perform, I was ecstatic. Somehow, despite forgetting to request that Wednesday off, I managed to receive it off anyway. I bought my outfit from my job and the next day I was off and ready to go. I was lifted and sipping on Henn, but I maintined my composure and ended up having an awesome night.

You know it's going to be a great night when you see me smiling lol. I never smile!

My outfit: wearing a lace shirt with nothing under it made me a tad bit uncomfortable so I put my jacket on before we reached the venue.

Posing after the show.

Me & Kiera during a break in the show. Can you tell what we did before lol? ;)

Empire of the Sun performing Half Mast.  Luke even went into the crowd and let a girl sing the lyrics. Lucky bitch.

On My Playlist...

This year has been an amazing year for music. New music from my favorite bands and rappers, as well as discovering new favorites, has rejuvenated my playlist. Check out some of my new favorites below:

Drake featuring Jay Z - Pound Cake/ Paris Morton Music 2

I loved Pound Cake from the second I heard Drake's leaked album lol. The samples, the beat, and two verses from one of my favorite rappers makes this a winner in my book.

Kilo  Kish- Navy

Kilo Kish is new to my iPod. A friend was introduced to her music and she in turn introduced me to her. This song is one of my favorites by her (with Goldmine running a close second). The beat is hypnotizing, and trying to decipher the meaning behind her lyrics (is she or is she not talking about sex?) will have you in your own little world.

The Weeknd - Love In The Sky

The Weeknd is back. This is one of my favorites off of his new album Kiss Land. With lyrics about drug usage and hypnotizing beat, it's clear that The Weeknd stuck to his usual formula when it came to making this song. However, I have no complaints about it. :)

Angus & Julia Stone - Big Jet Plane

I discovered this song through my work playlist. It would always come on at work and I always vibed to it. One day when I got off, I decided to download the song and I haven't stopped playing it since. It's infectious and mellow, an uncommon combination.

On My Playlist...

I love music, but I'm not exactly adventurous when it comes to it. Don't get me wrong, if you search my iTunes, you will find all kinds of music. I'm just the kind of girl that listens to an album and even if I like all or most of it, I have my favorite track that I am constantly playing (much to the dismay of my friends lol).

This summer has been pretty great music wise! Kanye and J. Cole recently released albums and my favorite rapper of all time, Jay-Z, is releasing a new album next week!

So I've added a few new favorite songs to my playlist and swapped a few ones out for newer music that I have "rediscovered". Check out my playlist below:

Music Monday

I've had a Twitter since 2009 back when Twitter was all jokes and trending topics and I wish Twitter was still like that. One of my favorite trending topics was #MusicMonday. I got to share what music I was listening to and discover new music from all over the world. In honor of the good ole days, I present you with my Music Monday, a collection of music that as of recently, I cant stop listening to.

I swear that I grew up in LA in the 90's. I can't stop playing those classic Westside songs such as Nuthin But A G Thang and It Was A Good Day.

I've been meaning to post on this mixtape for a while but I kept putting it off for some reason lol. Anyway rapper Rome Fortune is quickly getting a buzz and making a name for himself on the Atlanta Scene. He was featured on XXL's list of ATL rappers you should know and Lil Debbie even cosigned him on Instagram. His mixtape, 'Beautiful Pimp' is one of the most solid projects I've heard from an up and coming Atlanta artist in a while and it is definitely worth the download.

My favorites from the mixtape are DanceDance, Ice Cream Man, and Money Ministries (which I cannot go one day without playing lol).

Check out the trailer for Beautiful Pimp:

I've never been a mega J-Cole fan but he has definitely made some songs that I can get behind and support. When I saw everyone tweeting about his new song, "Power Trip", I definitely was not in a rush to go download it. However, when hanging out with friends I heard the song and I have to admit that it is a great song. Miguel gives me life!

Check out the video below:

And last but certainly not least, I loved Ciara since her Goodies dance but she lost me after she released her sophomore album. She's had a few singles here and there that I've enjoyed but for the most part, I haven't really been able to get into her. I love her new song "Body Partty" though! It has the sexiest vibe and the random crooning from her boyfriend Future in the background give the song the extra something that it needs.

Check out her amazing video below:

RIP Natina Reed

On October 26, 2012 Natina Reed of the group Blaque was hit by an automobile as she attempted to cross an Atlanta street. She died in the early morning hours of October 27. She would have been 33 today.

Natina Reed was a protege of the late rapper Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes who ironically died in a car accident in Honduras in 2002. Blaque was named the 4th Best New Artist by Billboard in 1999. In 2000, she starred in the movie Bring It On, alongside her other group members, Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst. She also had a 10-year-old son from a relationship with rapper Kurupt.

The two surviving members of Blaque confirmed that they were working on new material at the time of Reed's death. R.I.P. to Natina Reed and in honor of her untimely death listen to some of Blaque's biggest hits.

Kendrick Lamar featuring Drake- Poetic Justice

I haven't been this excited for an album since I heard Bey was releasing, 4, last year. I've been waiting so patiently && finally the time has come, Kendrick will drop his album tomorrow. I heard that it had leaked but I didn't rush to find a link like everyone else. However, while hanging with friends yesterday, somebody played this song and I instantly fell in love with it.

So enjoy this track. :)

New Music

DJ Khaled- They Ready (Featuring J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T. && Kendrick Lamar)

First, I really dislike DJ Khaled. All he does is yell over tracks and sound stupid. However I've been a fan of J. Cole for a couple of years now, I think KRIT is cool && I'm in love with Kendrick Lamar so when I was told about this track I just had to hear it. I love the beat, and I think it's safe to say that all three MCs did their thing (Kendrick had the best verse IMO though).

Song of the Day

ASAP Ferg- A Hundred Million Roses

I heard this song for the first time on my birthday and now I love it. I'll admit that I wasn't a big ASAP Mob fan at first but they've definitely grown on me! I look forward to seeing what they can contribute to the game.

Song of the Day

Frank Ocean (featuring Earl Sweatshirt)- Super Rich Kids

This is a song off of Frank Ocean's, Channel Orange. This album is fantastic. One you can play track after track without hitting skip once.

"I guess making sure that you good was my bad..."

It's Just Those Rainy Days...

When I was younger I hated rainy days. It meant that I had to sit inside all day && couldn't go out to play or to my best friend's house...in other words, they were B O R I N G. I also hated how ugly outside looked. Everything was all dark && gloomy, and I soon began to think that rainy days would be bad days.

However, the older I get the more I begin to appreciate the very things that I shunned as a child. I now appreciate the rain (what it does for the earth, the great sleep I get, and not to mention it's basically a free car wash :p). So on rainy days now I curl up in my bed, put on good music, a great movie && get to work (whether I'm blogging, returning e-mails, creating new pieces or drawing designs) I just make sure that I'm being productive.

So in honor of the rainy week that Atlanta is about to endure, here is my rainy day playlist. Enjoy. :)

Curren$y- J.O.B

Biggie- Me && My Bitch

Dom Kennedy- Dream to Me

Curren$y- Jets @ Your Neck

Roy Ayers- Everybody Loves the Sunshine

J. Cole- Hold It Down

Dom Kennedy- My Type of Party

Am I the only one that gets nervous when they hear that their favorite artist is coming out with new music cause you're not sure if it will be good as their previous efforts? Yeah? Okay. Well when I heard that Dom Kennedy was coming out with a new song titled My Type of Party, I was nervous but apprehensive.

It came out, I downloaded it, I listened to it, and I loved it! Now I post it here so that you can decide whether or not you like it.

Download it at www.DopeItsDom.com. :)

Foster the People- Pumped Up Kicks

Ummm so I'm very late but I'm in love with Foster the People now. This was the first song of theirs that I heard it and it's still among my favorites. Their album Torches is AMAZING! You'll be seeing a lot more Foster the People on my blog, so enjoy! :)

Corinne Bailey Rae- Trouble Sleeping

Corinne Bailey Rae made amazing music and was so underrated and slept on it was crazy. This is one of my favorite songs off her self-titled debut album. Enjoy. :)

ScHoolboy Q && Kendrick Lamar- Blessed

*sighs* man, I love this song. I really feel everything both of them are rapping about in this song even though I haven't lived it. Oh yeah, I just got put on ScHoolboy Q, so get used to seeing him on this blog. He's my new addiction. :p

"What ever you imagine you possess, my nigga..."
